On November 29, 2019, an International Conference on personal data protection was held in Sofia. The event was aimed at small and medium-sized business representatives and their legal advisers.
On behalf of the “Kancheff, Gicheva, Marnikas and Partners” Law Firm, Att. Stefania Gicheva and Att. Pepa Marnikas participated in the conference.
During the event presentations were made by Mr. Ventsislav Karadjov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Commission for Personal Data Protection and Deputy Chair of the European Data Protection Board, Mr. Luigi Montuori and Mr. Luigi Carozzi from the Italian Data Protection Authority, Dr. Luis Antonio de Salvador Carrasco from the Spanish Data Protection Agency, Mrs. Dace Luters-Thûmmel, Secretary General of the European Women Lawyers Association, as well as lecturers from the Sofia University and the Roma Tre University, the Bulgarian Industrial Association, the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency, etc.
Among the main topics were the effective implementation of GDPR requirements into the day-to-day operations of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the training of their staff on the challenges of GDPR, the GDPR compliance technology and management solutions for SMEs, the personal data security, data protection by design and by default, the legal and ethical aspects of processing personal data and more.
During the conference, the participants from the Italian Data Protection Authority and the Spanish Data Protection Agency presented some interesting case studies of its practice. As well, they shared their experience of how SMEs in these countries deal with the challenges they faced in implementing GDPR requirements.
The International Conference was practical and interactive with plenty of time for discussion.
